Back in late October 2011, I posted about the innovative writing program NaNoWriMo for Young Writers. Our young writers wrote furiously for thirty days, practicing "stream of consciousness" creative writing and suppressing their "inner editors." I am happy to say that everyone met their word count goals and some very impressive works are in the finishing stages.
Here is a great video from an educator who used the program in her class. It will give you a glimpse of what it means for these children to become "authors."
If you are homeschooling, I encourage you to give NaNoWriMo a try this fall. If you want to recommend the program to your school, refer them to the web-site of The Office of Letters and Light for more information.
Keep creativity alive.
